How Can You Help?
The American Red Cross depends on volunteer blood donors to meet the needs of hospital patients across the country.
Every 2 seconds someone in this country needs a blood transfusion and historically only 5% of the population donates.
Each day in our region alone on average over 300 blood donations are needed to insure an adequate supply of blood.
Give Blood Regularly
If you are eligible to donate, give regularly at a drive or donor center near you. You can donat every 56 days (8 weeks), up to 6 times per year. Every donor is a Hero to someone who requires a transfusion and every donation is important to saving or sustaining a life.

Sponsor a Blood Drive
Businesses, civic groups, churches, community groups, high schools and colleges are a vital part of the Red Cross blood program. As blood drive sponsors they are the link between the Red Cross and thousands of volunteer blood donors.
There are mutual benefits to becoming a blood drive sponsor.
You are meeting a vitally important community need while creating visibility for your organization as responsible citizens willing to help in the challenge.
Sponsoring a blood drive in your community or place of business is a great way to contribute.

Become an Apheresis Donor
Another way you may help save lives is by becoming an apheresis donor. Apheresis is a special blood collection process by which blood is drawn from a donor's arm and sent through sterile tubing to a cell separator. The machine separates out the blood components needed, then the remaining components are returned immediately to the donor via the other arm. Most often collected are platelets, which are beneficial for patients with leukemia and other life-threatening blood-related diseases.
For more information about becoming an apheresis donor, call 540-985-3521.
Become a Potential Bone Marrow Donor
You may also help save the life of someone with a life-threatening disease by joining the National Marrow Donor Program Registry. Members of minority communities are especially needed as potential donors.
For more information about becoming a potential marrow donor, call 540-345-4314.
